Crayon Syntax Highlighter is a popular WordPress plugin for displaying programming code on your website. With over 40,000 active installations at the time of this post, it is still the most widely used syntax highlighter even though its last Github commit was in early 2018.
The set up process for Crayon Syntax Highlighter is easy and there isn’t much to tinker with to get it working. In fact, choosing a theme from its list of 57 choices is probably more time consuming than anything else.
Sampling each theme can be tedious but here is a compilation of all the themes that you can quickly preview rather than going through each one individually.

SUMMARY
It should be noted that the Crayon Syntax Highlighter plugin has not been updated since 2015 so there may be compatibility issues with newer versions of PHP.
However, because it is still popular and used by many, users are continually finding solutions to commons issues. For troubleshooting with PHP 7.3, there is a quick fix posted on the plugin’s support page on wordpress.org that is accessible here.
Although the developer of this plugin doesn’t provide updates, it should still be fully functional for years to come thanks to the support from its community.
